My name is Levi Thompson and right now I only do handgun
competition but I am going to start up 3 gun and possibly get into some PRS or
ELR matches. I may at some point do some type of clay sport as well, but not
too seriously as I have the other aspects of shooting that I like to focus my
time and energy on. I have been shooting
since I was 4 years old and where my love for shooting began. I am currently in
the United States Air Force as a Combat Arms Instructor stationed at Lackland
Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas. My
job revolves around ensuring everyone going through basic training is taught
correctly how to shoot as well as making sure the rest of the base population
is taught and maintains their qualifications.
Before here, I was at Malmstrom
AFB in Great Falls, Montana. While up there I did a little bit of competing at
some local matches about once or twice a month for about a year before I left.
I moved down here to San Antonio in the summer of 2016 and started back into
competitive shooting. I generally shoot
2 or 3 times a month (aside from a few extra days a week for practice), and on
average I end up scoring 2nd in my division and class; overall out
of about 70-100 shooters, I place in the top 20. Since I have been in the Air Force, I have
had numerous opportunities to go to some shooting schools, one of which being
NADM, which is the Air Force’s sniper school.
While there, I managed to break the current shot record for the school by hitting a target at 1 mile with the Barrett M107 (M82A1 for civilian side). Upon completion of sniper school, I graduated as top shot of my class and have since continued my journey into the mastery of long range precision shooting. Along with getting Top Shot of my class, I maintain a record for expert qualification on all weapon systems. I love to shoot and at some point down the road I am going to have my own shooting school and gunsmith shop. I currently do some one on one firearms training when I am not at work or shooting for myself. As of right now, I am in the process of getting my federal firearms license so I can do gunsmithing under the business name of GFR. Once I get that, if you’re ever in the San Antonio area and you need a smith, look me up.
