Cleaning Techniques

For Bolt Action Rifles & Revolvers

BEFORE YOU BEGIN CLEANING YOUR FIREARM, ALWAYS MAKE SURE IT IS UNLOADED!

Clean your firearms in a well ventilated area away from distractions

1) Remove the bolt from the rifle. Use the appropriate bore guide for your rifle.

To begin the cleaning process, first saturate a Pro-Shot 100% cotton flannel finished on both sides cleaning patch. Using 1 Step Cleaner/Lubricant for lead & Powder fouling /jacketed bullet fouling or Copper Solvent for use on jacketed bullet fouling.

2) Push the patch with a professional spear pointed jag through the bore to remove the loose powder residue, which will totally expose the copper and lead fouling. REPEAT THIS PROCESS AT LEAST 4 TIMES.

3) Using a wet benchrest brush”, Pro-Shot’s name for it’s high quality Phosphorus Bronze Bristles and a brass core along with a looped end, push the brush back and forth through the bore 10-12 times. Go completely through the barrel from the breech out the end of the muzzle. DO NOT REVERSE THE BRUSH INSIDE THE BARREL. When cleaning a revolver cylinder chambers, run a wet brush through each chamber hole on the cylinder 11 to 12 times additionally.

4) Saturate additional cleaning patches and individually push each one through the bore to remove any additional lead, copper, carbon and powder fouling.

A Blue/Green patch indicates that copper fouling is still present, a black patch indicates that powder and carbon fouling is still present in the firearm.

5) Repeat steps 2 & 3. For severely fouled firearms let the solvent remain in the bore for 10 to 15 minutes. Then run dry cleaning patches down the barrel (including cylinder chamber holes) until the cleaning patches come out totally clean. When the cleaning patch comes out totally clean, the cleaning process is finished.

6) LUBRICATION- Using Pro-Shot Pro gold grease in environments above freezing, or Pro-Shot Zero Friction in all weather conditions, apply to all moving parts and wear surfaces. APPLY SPARINGLY!
