Nicholas Flood, was among seven Irish Athletes honoured by the Minister for Sport Mr John O’Donoghue T.D. and Irish Sports Council CEO John Treacy. The awards were to recognise their exceptional performance in international competition. The presentations took place at the Conrad Hotel in Dublin on December 9th 2003.

The Irish record holder has won the 2003 European Shooting Championships in Debrecen, in Hungary. Beating the best of Europe's competitive shooters. This is the first time any person has won all four rifle events, which comprise the European Championships. It is also the first time an Irish person has won the European Championships.

Last Year Nicholas won 5th place overall in the 2002 World Championships at Uzes, in France, third place in the US National Championships in Raton, New Mexico and was Irish National Champion. Nicholas is assisted by the Irish Sports Council under its carded athletes scheme.

Nicholas is equipped with a Steyr Pro-Hunter Centrefire Rifle. Steyr of Austria are the rifle suppliers to the Irish Army. The Calibre is 6.5 X 55. The small-bore rifle is an Anschutz 1712 FWT in .22 calibre. The Spotting Scope is a Pentax 80.

In 2001 he set the joint European shooting record after being beaten in a Shoot-off for first place by French national champion, Nicholas Berthelot.

Dubliner Nicholas Flood (aged 38) has been shooting since 1995 and is now the Irish National Champion for three years in a row. As a result of this magnificent win, Ireland has the opportunity to host this huge European event in 2005.
